We also reprogram compatible learner keys as full-performance keys. Where the system supports it, this changes the key’s assigned operating mode so it no longer applies learner-key restrictions. It restores access to the ski’s normal performance—it does not increase the engine’s factory power.
How does programming work?
Sea-Doo’s DESS—Digitally Encoded Security System—recognises an authorised key before allowing normal operation. A replacement key needs to be registered with the ski’s electronic system.
The basic process is straightforward:
Identify your Sea-Doo and key type. We check the model, year and system to establish the correct key and programming method.
Connect the diagnostic equipment. We use CanDoo Pro or BUDS, as appropriate for the model.
Register the key and set its function. We add the compatible key and configure normal or learner operation where supported.
Verify the programming. We check that the system recognises the key and that the intended settings have been saved.
On the ski or off the ski
For on-vehicle programming, we work with the electronic system installed in your Sea-Doo.
Off-vehicle programming uses the relevant electronic module with a suitable bench connection, where supported. This can be useful when bringing the complete ski to us is impractical. Contact us before removing or sending any components, so we can confirm exactly what your model requires. Off-vehicle programming generally requires more than the loose key alone.

Can you turn my learner key into a full-performance key?
Yes, on compatible systems. We can change the key’s programming from learner operation to normal operation, removing the restrictions associated with its learner setting.
Does converting a learner key increase engine power?
It gives you access to the normal performance available from your Sea-Doo. It does not tune the engine or increase its factory power output.
Does the colour of my key determine its performance?
Not necessarily. On supported systems, a key can be assigned learner or normal operation through programming. Its colour alone does not confirm how it is currently configured.
Must I bring the whole jet ski?
Not always. We offer on-vehicle and off-vehicle programming, depending on the model and electronic system. For off-vehicle work, we need the relevant electronic module and a suitable connection setup. Contact us first so we can explain exactly what is required.
Can I send you just the key?
For standard key registration or a learner-to-normal conversion, the loose key alone is generally not enough. We need access to the Sea-Doo’s relevant electronic system, either installed in the ski or connected off the vehicle.
What tools do you use?
We have both CanDoo Pro and BUDS diagnostic tools. We select the appropriate equipment and procedure for your Sea-Doo’s model and system.
Can you program a spare while keeping my existing key working?
On supported systems, an additional key can be registered while retaining the existing authorised key. Let us know you want a spare and bring your existing keys along if available.
My Sea-Doo does not recognise my key. Does it need reprogramming?
